Description :
Holidays based in this wonderful region of the Scottish Highlands invariably enthrall all who participate. Dominated by towering mountain peaks and deeply fissured with reaching sea lochs, these are the real Highlands of legend and romance where shaggy-coated highland cattle are a fitting presence on the scene. Wildlife aside, the land and seascapes are awesomely scenic.
Thriving populations of Golden and White-tailed Eagles, Ravens, Wildcats, Otters and Pine Martens testify to the wild unspoiled nature of the region.
Stands of remnant native oakwood are a characteristic vegetation, cladding green hillsides to host a wide diversity of bird species. Trees are festooned with hanging mosses and lichens as in temperate rain forest, reflecting mild winters and high rainfall - though at the time of our visit good weather tends to be the norm.
The coast of Ardnamurchan and Loch Sunart is prime Otter country, the surrounding glens and mountain ridges among the best in mainland Scotland for viewing eagles. Pine Martens are watched at a baited site.
August is a prime time for viewing cetaceans and Basking Sharks, to which end we take a cruise around the Small Isles from Mallaig - where we are based for two nights. A great deal of other wildlife shall be seen, including divers, shearwaters, skuas, bats, deer and seals.
