October 25 - 30 Mon - Sat
Group Size: 9
Starting Point: Glasgow
Based: Arduaine (between Oban and Lochgilphead)
Walking: Easy
Description :
This late season event presents the rare and exclusive experience of observing European Beavers in the wild - in Scotland. As with all wildlife watching nothing is guaranteed but, through our regular visits to beaver haunts in Knapdale, we remain up-to-date with ongoing activity and remain confident that you will not be disappointed.
There will be no shortage of other wildlife, mammals and birds both being well represented. Although the Red Deer rut is just about over, introduced Japanese Sika Deer still utter their eerily chilling mating calls. Coastal Argyll is a haven for Otters and seals, also Harbour Porpoises (we have seen both from the hotel).
Skeins of migrating geese and Whooper Swans adorn the skies, while sheltered coastal bays host numerous divers (Great Northern and Black-throated still in summer plumage), Slavonian Grebes, Common and Velvet Scoters, and Long-tailed Ducks.
Of raptors we can expect to see Golden Eagles, Hen Harriers, Peregrines and Merlins, and of course the ubiquitous Common Buzzard.
Autumn is just as energetic as spring for wildlife activity and, although billed for wildlife content, this tour focuses equally on memorable walks amidst colourful scenery. It will seem that we have the Highlands to ourselves, and there are no midges!
In addition to being superbly scenic this incredibly mild region of West Scotland is steeped in history, featuring the greatest assemblage of historic sites outside Orkney.
